CCÉ Sudbury Branch was formed on March 17, 1996. We are one of over 400 branches of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann (CCÉ) world wide. We organize and present traditional musicians, singers, and dancers along with other aspects of Irish tradition in various events that are promoted by our branch and the movement as a whole. The branch is the fundamental and most important unit of the Comhaltas movement. It is the branch that makes it possible for Irish native cultural characteristics to be propagated and strengthened within the community. Members come together to organize sessions, classes, concerts, festivals, exhibitions, fleadhanna cheoil, and other competitive events both for their own enjoyment and that of the community at large. These activities, together with CCÉ educational facilities further the aims and objectives of the movement while helping to develop creative skills and artistic talent. County/Regional BoardsA County Board, or a Regional Board in Britain and North America, can be formed in any County or Region where three or more branches exist. The board, made up of delegates from each branch, is responsible for the formation of new branches and promotion of the aims and objectives of the movement. Provincial CouncilsProvincial Councils exist in each of Ireland's four provinces, in Britain, and in North America. These councils, made up of delegates from County/Regional Boards, control and direct Comhaltas activities within the province, with the exception of Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, which is organized by the Ardchomhairle. Ardchomhairle (Central Executive Council)The Ardchomhairle, the governing body of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, consists of the President General, the Secretary General, the Treasurer General, and the Registrar General. All of these are elected by the Annual Congress (the Supreme Governing Body), which convenes on the first weekend in May each year. In addition, a Music Officer, a Competitions Officer, and a Public Relations Officer are appointed from within the Ardchomhairle. Each Provincial Council Chairman becomes a Vice-Chairman of the Ardchomhairle, automatically, while the remainder of the body consists of two Provincial Council delegates from each province.
